Producer Overview:
Famille Mélinon is a mother-and-son estate at Saint-Joseph-en-Beaujolais, in Villié-Morgon, in the heart of the Beaujolais crus. The family farms 16 hectares across several crus, sustainably and with many organic practices, using no herbicides or pesticides, and makes its Gamay traditionally with native yeasts.
Wines:
Chiroubles "Fontenelle": From a single 1.5-hectare plot of 50-year-old vines at 450 meters on pink granite, among the highest vineyards in Beaujolais. Hand-harvested, semi-carbonic maceration and 10 months in concrete. Garnet red, with cherry and red currant, mineral hints and a smooth, mouth-filling palate.
Beaujolais-Villages "Tirage Précoce": 100% Gamay, bottled early for freshness: light, fruity and spicy, with soft tannins.
