Dark Amethyst

Producer Overview:

Dark Amethyst is made by Piedra Wines from high-altitude vineyards in Vista Flores, in Mendoza's Uco Valley, where cool nights at the foot of the Andes give deep color, fresh acidity and ripe fruit. The name honors the amethyst, a gemstone long prized in South America. Production is small, about 12,000 bottles.

Wines:

Dark Amethyst Malbec (Uco Valley): Mostly Malbec with a little Cabernet Sauvignon, hand-harvested, fermented in stainless steel and aged nine months in French oak; bottled unfined. Intense bright purple, with black fruit, white pepper, cloves and a hint of vanilla. Broad and juicy, with firm tannins and a long, persistent finish.
