Producer Overview:

In 2006, the first vintages of Podere Il Balzo debuted. In 2016, owner Paolo Ponticelli began the conversion to organic farming, always followed by Federico Giuntini, owner of the nearby farm of Selvapiana, and Franco Bernabei, expert oenologist. The vineyards consist of about 18 acres and sit at about 1,000 feet above sea level, and from these vineyards only 5,000 bottles are produced. The land here is ideal for the growth of Sangiovese. Fermentation in stainless steel casks at controlled temperatures. Ageing is 100% in second passage French Oak barriques for a period of about 18 months; then refined in bottle for other 6 months.
